Proper Pull Up Mechanics
We may not be a CrossFit and we may not promote kipping pull ups or butterfly pull ups as a strength builder but what we do promote is good sound teaching, proper mechanics, stable body positions, and pull ups that would make a Chinese rock climber proud.
Kelly Starrett, Mobility Guru, and author of Supple Leopard, is a freak when it comes to recognizing inefficiencies in the body and "broken positions." That is why he is coming to you through the power of blogs and youtube today with some rock solid teaching.
I wanted to share this video so we can hammer back in the ideas that Cale and I try to preach when doing pull ups. Kelly has some incredible tips and if his PhD isn't enough credibility then maybe the fact that he can knock out perfect pull ups in Gucci jeans and polo will suffice as justification for a 6 minute life changing video.
With your new found knowledge, we will dive into next week and begin our new challenge. This challenge is a bit different. Instead of each person having to hit a certain rep count by month's end, we will record your pull up max on Monday or whenever you come in next week and then Cale and I will give you a new PR goal that you must hit by or on the last day of the month. We will give each person a training plan to help you reach that goal and will also assist you in developing proper pull up mechanics to aid in efficiency in the movement and safety throughout the movement so your joints and tendons will be as happy as you are when you win that sick t-shirt.
